Media Systems
The act of pulling all the phone, data and network cables for a home or office, to a central box is known as Structured Media. And having this structure forms the basis for a connected home. This allows systems that used to be separated to work together. You can also incorporate other systems such as intercom, cameras and audio, often with the same type of wiring, to form a complete low voltage package of systems that work together for your benefit. This wiring scheme offers many benefits for the life of the home. The systems we sell are two of the most complete systems in the industry. While they both have their strengths, either system can be scaled to any size job. The essential components for every job will include connections for phone, data, and TV, an enclosure with power modules if needed, and, of course, wire, wall plates and jacks. We sell Multi Dwelling units for a simple Apartment job up to 15,000 plus square foot homes. In my mind, it is absolutely essential to have structured media if you plan to expand the low voltage components in a home. Connecting the cables based on the TIA/EIA Residential Standards allows you the proper flexibility of your system. You can make a data cable into a monitor for a sleeping baby. You can see a camera on any TV or Computer in or out of the home. You can listen to reggae music at the pool, the radio in the office and Disco in the fun room at the same time. And with Windows Media Center, you can use any TV in your home as a control point for music, videos, TV and photos. You can add a digital phone system, and control your whole house with automation from anywhere in the world. And it all starts with a structured approach to wiring the low voltage components of your home into a cabinet following the standards. In New Construction, it costs only a fraction more to centrally locate cables then it would cost otherwise, but the long term benefit is huge in terms of applications and value. The cost to rewire a home can add up and be difficult to do. But while you are upgrading and adding on is a great time to get the wire into the walls. If you are not offering your customers this option, are you really doing the customer a service or saving them money? Selling Structured Media is a creative process because, when you see it, it’s not glamourous.
