Wire
There are many type of cables that you will use. And while there are many companies that make cable, all are not created equal. Manufacturing takes place in many parts of the world. USA made products have some of the best techniques and testing procedures in place. We certainly cannot speak for all manufacturers but I have experienced many more recalls from cables made outside the US than from within. That is why many of our cables will come from Honeywell Genesis Wire and Cable. The cable I sell from Genesis will be backed up with full warranties and in the event of a failure they often will pay for the replacement. Having said that, it is important to understand how to install and terminate cables properly to ensure they are not damaged when installed. I would hope all installers would have some formal training in the TIA/EIA standards prior to installing cables. It is not that difficult to damage cable beyond repair by stretching, kinking or otherwise handling Low Voltage cable incorrectly. CED offers a Two hour class, part of the Intro to Structured Wiring, that outlines the concepts and techniques of basic installation. As a Fully stocking Electrical Supply House, there is a ton of cables we stock in our facility. This book will outline the basic cables that apply to Low Voltage, IE: the Big movers. Any type of cable you are interested in can be obtained in a short amount of time. There are stocking locations throughout the nation and wire can often be drop shipped. Shipping can be an issue with cable as it tends to be heavy. We will do our best to keep freight fees as low as possible and our company has exceptional discounts with many freight companies. Prepaid levels can be achieved with the right size order and will be worked out based on the order placed. Remember, your network and Low Voltage systems are only as good as the components that make them up. I won’t sell you what I cannot guarantee will give you the results you need. Wire is the most dificult item in a system to replace. Don’t make a habit of going cheap just to save a buck. Quality cabling is critical to a healthy Low Voltage system.
